Julie Taymor's "Across the Universe" is an audacious marriage of cutting-edge visual techniques, heart-warming performances, 1960s history and the Beatles songbook. Sounds like a concept that might be behind its time, but I believe in yesterday.

Suzanne and Jennifer would often watch movies together as children and musicals made up a good share of their favorites. After they read the script for Julie Taymor’s experimental musical narrative, they lunged at the chance to produce the project. Once they got permission to use The Beatles’ catalog, they began the process of casting actors who could sing. After some difficulties finding established stars who could pull off the musical numbers, they widened the search to unknown talent and famously cast then-green Jim Sturgess across the seasoned Evan Rachel Wood. The soundtrack performed tremendously and the film found its way into the hearts of young millennials who joined their parents singing classic Beatles tunes.
